Home for the weekend.
I was excitedly telling of my plans all week long and I was bouncing around with a quick stop at Dustin's before getting started for home. I all but jumped out of a still moving car when we pulled in the drive. Ruby and I were both pretty excited to see each other! It's safe to say that I missed my pup dearly! When we walked in the door I hugged Momma and Daddy before sitting down to chili, which I had been craving all week. My brother joined and Momma said it was like it used to be with us both interrupting each other for a chance to tell a story. We played our typical game of Rummy before wrapping it up for the night.
Today I woke up to dad banging around in the kitchen (the other side of the couch) and I knew he was ready to get busy in the fields. Mom and I ran to Ottumwa to watch some volleyball action that my niece was in and do a little shopping...like paint to repaint my brother and I's rooms since we are now both gone. As soon as we got back I headed to Gramps & Grammy's to ride in the combine.
Running across the field I saw a rather big smile spreading across Gramps' face knowing that I was coming to ride with him. It truly is one of my favorite things to do. We rode and talked and dumped a hopper or two. He told me stories of when he was a boy and caught me up on the neighborhood. I told him of my classroom and about the Hawkeye game Dustin and I are going to next week. It's soothing to ride and watch all that corn get gobbled up and spit out and chat about everything with him. I don't get a chance to do it enough. Too soon he was done with that field.
Supper tonight will involve all of the people helping tonight. And we will laugh, eat, talk, and then probably play a round of cards or two! :)
